The Shorewood School District consists of four schools Lake Bluff Elementary, Atwater Elementary, Shorewood Intermediate School, and Shorewood High School catering to 2,200 students with 200 faculty members. The school district serves a community of 14,000 people and is located just north of downtown Milwaukee.
The Challenge:
There were a few challenges Kain Energy Corporation faced with the Shorewood School District. First was replacing an outdated temperature controls system with a state of the art integrated Temperature and Access Controls System. Another challenge was installing CCTV in existing buildings built in the early 1900s. High speed communication between the 4 buildings on the High School campus, and 3 other schools within the district, was need so that information from these buildings could be brought back to one workstation.
The Solution:
Kain Energy proposed an I/NET System to control;
- (41) Unit Ventilators
- (19) Convectors
- (15) Cabinet Unit Heaters
- (9) Unit Heaters
- (4) Exhaust Fans
- (3) Rooftop Units
- (2) Air Conditioning Units
- (1) Fan Coil Unit
- (2) Heat Exchangers
- (1) Chiller System
After two unexplained fires at the High School in 2004 KEC was asked to propose an integrated Access Control System with CCTV and Digital Video Recording. The system covered;
- (5) Digital Video Recorders (DVR)
- (15) Cameras throughout the school district
- (25) Door with strikes
- (100+) Doors are being monitored
- (400+) Badge Holders
KEC was able to use the flexibility of I/Net to bring together the 3 ViewCons and the 69 MicroRegulators (MR) needed to control all of these different pieces of equipment and devices. In addition KEC added a 527 Websever with graphic web pages so that with the use of a public IP address a customer can access the system off site to view any problems in the system shown on graphic pages. Utilizing the schools existing Ethernet system the five different DVRs can communicate back to the central location. In addition five 527 NetPlus Routers were used to bring the Access System at the different schools back to the central Workstation.
The Bottom Line:
KEC was able to give Shorewood School District a state of the art, energy saving I/Net Temperature Control Systems with the flexibility to add complete integrated Access Control with CCTV and Digital Video Recording throughout the rest of the District. With the use of CCTV, DVRs, Video Badging, and door monitoring staff and students a like can work and study with bit more peace of mind in this post September 11th world.
