Challenge

The Shorewood School District consists of four schools: Lake Bluff Elementary, Atwater Elementary, Shorewood Intermediate School, and Shorewood High School.

The School District's outdated temperature controls system needed to be replaced with a state-of-the-art integrated temperature and access controls system. A CCTV system needed to be installed in buildings built in the early 1900's. A high-speed communication system was required to transfer information from four High School campus buildings and three district schools to a central workstation.

Solution

Kain Energy proposed an I/NET system to control:

• 41 unit ventilators

• 19 convectors

• 15 cabinet unit heaters

• 9 unit heaters

• 4 exhaust fans

• 3 rooftop units

• 2 air conditioning units

• 2 heat exchangers

• fan coil unit

• chiller system

 

After two incidents at the High School, Kain Energy was asked to follow up previous work with an integrated access control system with CCTV and digital video recording. The system covered:

• 5 digital video recorders

• 15 cameras throughout the school district

• 15 card readers

• 25 doors with strikes

• 100+ doors

• 400+ badge holders

Kain Energy Corporation gave the Shorewood School District a state-of-the-art, energy-saving I/Net temperature control system with the flexibility to add integrated access control with CCTV and digital video recording. The I/Net system brought together the three ViewCons and 69 microregulators needed to control all the equipment and devices.

 

Kain Energy added a 527 Webserver so the school district could access the system off-site. The school's existing Ethernet system and five different digital video recorders were set up to communicate to a central location. In addition, five 527 NetPlus Routers allowed the different schools' access systems to be communicated to a main workstation.
